SEN Class Teacher

Can you make learning...

Exciting!  Engaging!  Inspiring!  Accessible! Meaningful!  Functional! Creative! Fun!

Are you committed to making a positive difference to young people with diverse learning disabilities?

Do you have the passion and skills to overcome barriers and ensure our students make outstanding progress?

If yes is the answer to all of the above then…our learners need you!

Corbets Tey School is an oversubscribed school with very special students and supportive governors. The school has a calm, purposeful yet stimulating and welcoming high quality learning environment with pleasant surroundings and specialist resources and facilities. We are seeking to appoint a Class Teacher to support learners in mixed-age specialist classes. We cater for 120 pupils aged from 4-16 on the main school site. Students have a range of Complex and Severe Learning Disabilities, Autism and Speech, Language or Communication Needs. The school specialises in developing language and communication in pupils with severe language barriers. The school was judged as ‘Good’ at the last Ofsted inspection in March 2018.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly motivated classroom practitioner to engage and inspire a class of learners with SEN through high expectations and eclectic and accessible teaching methods. The successful applicant will work in a Communication and Interaction Class that specialises in a variety of communication approaches, supporting children with complex communication and associated behavioural needs.

The post holder will be required to carry out the professional duties of a teacher as set out in the current edition of the School Teacher’s Pay and Conditions Document. The successful applicant will also have experience of developing the communication skills of pupils with complex needs including Autism (eg: Verbal Behaviour (VB), PECS, etc.) You should be willing to apply an analytical approach to monitoring progress of pupils through personalised and innovative teaching and learning. You should be excited and enthusiastic about developing individualised teaching and learning to maximise motivation and engagement to achieve positive outcomes for every single learner.

We are seeking team players, with outstanding staff leadership skills within the classroom. You will aspire to outstanding practice and also show a commitment to making a positive contribution to school improvement.

Please apply via Havering School Jobs website https://ats-haveringschools.jgp.co.uk/vacancies/. If you experience difficulties in applying or have any questions, please contact Lisa Wellard on 01708 225888.  We welcome and appreciate visits to the school.

Closing date for applications:   Midnight Thursday 6th February 2020

Safeguarding

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The protection of our pupils from abuse is the responsibility of all staff within our schools, superseding any other considerations. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to submit, prior to their interview, a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Upon submission of this information, online checks may be carried out.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the School.

Equal Opportunities

Havering Schools aim to promote and ensure equality of opportunity and equal treatment for all. We are committed to equal opportunities in employment regardless of gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origins, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, responsibility for dependants, religious or political affiliation and trade union activities. All matters related to employment are decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business need.
