Train-to-Teach English

Hours: Full Time

Pay Scale: Bursary £10,000 (Tax Free)

Contract: Fixed Term

Start Date: September 2024

We are looking to employ a graduate with a strong degree to train as a teacher of English. The training encompasses a one-year initial teacher training course (ITT), with a view of permanent employment, dependant on successful completion of the course and performance. The next steps for the successful candidate would be an ECT programme on the qualified main teacher pay scale.  Tuition fees for the training year would be self-funded by the trainee. Unfortunately, the Department for Education have no postgraduate bursaries available for English.

In the first year, the graduate will take on a small timetable that will increase in hours over the course of the year. They will be supported by an experienced mentor who will be in the classroom with them.

The graduate will follow Hornchurch High School’s bespoke initial teacher training development programme. The successful candidate will seek to foster excellence and will have the ability to inspire enthusiasm for English. They should also be willing to play a significant and meaningful role in the co-curricular life of the school.

This is an exciting time to be joining Hornchurch High School as we have new and exciting plans for the near future. We are an aged 11-16 mixed comprehensive with good pupils, supportive parents and an excellent staff.
