Music Teacher/Specialist

Hours: Part time (3/4 days, subject to availability and need)

Salary: Main Scale M2 - M6 or Unqualified Teacher Scale

Contract: Permanent

Start: September 2025

At Crownfield Junior, we believe in working as a team for the children that we are responsible for and care for. We believe that our children are at the centre of all we do, encouraging and supporting them to be the best that they can be. We treat the children as individuals and understand that their needs are unique to them.

We are extremely proud of our school and the broad curriculum we offer. There is a studio hall for the teaching of music with specially laid flooring for acoustics. We also have a bespoke music curriculum written by our current music specialist which meets needs all of curriculum requirements.

We are partners with the Mawney School as the Learning and Achieving Federation through which we are exchanging good practice and resources to continue our journeys forward.

Our Ofsted Report in July 2023 stated:

‘Pupils at this school are kind, polite and hard-working. In lessons they listen to their teachers and to each other.' ‘Pupils with SEND are quickly identified and are very well supported to study the same broad curriculum as their classmates. Teachers and leaders work together to identify strategies that best meet these pupils’ needs.’ 'Safeguarding is prioritised and leaders are tenacious in securing support for the most vulnerable pupils.’

Crownfield Junior School has a long history of promoting music by the employment of a music teacher/specialist and we are looking for the right person to join our happy, supportive team and continue the high standards of music teaching and extracurricular opportunities our children receive.  This would include singing assemblies’ choirs, bands, drama, music concerts, trips and school productions.

The days needed can be flexible. We would like to appoint an enthusiastic, organised person who:

  • Can demonstrate excellent classroom teaching and learning with high expectations of pupil progress and attainment
  • Has experience of organising extracurricular activities linked to the love of music
  • Can challenge, motivate and support pupils of all abilities and needs through adaptation
  • Is passionate about the teaching and learning of the whole child and is flexible to new ideas
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Is pro-active, flexible and can demonstrate a willingness to participate fully in all aspects of school life.

We are lucky to be set in beautiful grounds. Our children are great to work with: polite, enthusiastic, hard working with a sense of fun!  We have a very supportive staff who work together for the good of the children – they have a sense of humour too!

If you would like a tour of the school, please phone our reception on 01708 747070. You may also wish to look at our website for further information.

Please apply online.

Closing Date: Thursday 19th June 2025

Interviews: W/C 23rd June 2025

Interviews will include a short lesson observation of the applicants.

Safeguarding

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The protection of our pupils from abuse is the responsibility of all staff within our schools, superseding any other considerations. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to submit, prior to their interview, a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Upon submission of this information, online checks may be carried out.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the School.

Equal Opportunities

Havering Schools aim to promote and ensure equality of opportunity and equal treatment for all. We are committed to equal opportunities in employment regardless of gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origins, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, responsibility for dependants, religious or political affiliation and trade union activities. All matters related to employment are decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business need.
