Routes4Life Provision Aims

The Routes4Life provision aims to meet the needs of Post 19 students who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We provide support for young people to access one-year, outcomes focused, individualised study programmes appropriate to their needs so that they can make a purposeful transition into their adult lives. It is important that young people moving into adult life maximise their experiences and opportunities. A successful transition requires specialist, outcomes focused support to develop the links, relationships, support networks and experiences. This provision has been designed to create individualised learning for young people to transition into either employment, supported living or a community learning programme or a combination of these.

Core Purpose of Role

To provide high quality OT assessment and intervention for students with complex special educational needs, including Autism (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, aiming to maximise their independence in adulthood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Assessment: Conduct standardised and observational assessments of students’ sensory, functional, and motor skills to determine barriers to learning and independence.
  • EHCP Management: Write detailed reports for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews and set SMART targets related to functional life skills.
  • Intervention Delivery: Implement 1:1 and group sessions focusing on self-regulation, fine/gross motor skills, and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as meal preparation or travel
  • Environment Adaptation: Advise on and implement environmental modifications, including sensory rooms and specialised equipment (seating, weighted aids).
  • Collaborative Working: Work within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) including Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT), Physiotherapists, and specialist teaching staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications: A recognised degree in Occupational Therapy and mandatory HCPC registration.

Experience: Proven experience in SEN settings; role require specific expertise in sensory integration or complex neurodevelopmental conditions.

Skills: Proficiency in Sensory Integration, manual handling, and the ability to manage a varied clinical caseload independently.

Requirements: Enhanced DBS check and often a valid UK driving license for community-based or multi-site roles.

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The protection of our pupils from abuse is the responsibility of all staff within our schools, superseding any other considerations. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to submit, prior to their interview, a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children.
