About The Mawney Foundation

We are a thriving three-form entry primary school serving a richly diverse community in Havering, as part of the Learning and Achieving Federation. We embrace this diversity as a strength and are committed to providing an inclusive, high-quality education that reflects our strong values.

Our vision is to foster confident, curious learners equipped to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. We cultivate an environment where respect, resilience, and community spirit are at the heart of everything we do.

The school was last inspected by Ofsted in May 2025 and was graded as good in all areas. We continually strive to improve and develop our offer with a strong emphasis on Personal Development and enrichment, as well as academic excellence.

About the Role

As Deputy Headteacher, you will be second-in-command day to day, working closely with the Executive Headteacher and Headteacher to lead whole-school standards and drive continuous improvement. You will:

  • Provide strategic leadership across all phases, with a particular focus on supporting and developing the EYFS provision.
  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan, ensuring it reflects our vision and meets the needs of all pupils.
  • Oversee teaching, learning, and assessment practises, using data to inform improvement and raise pupil outcomes.
  • Line manage key staff including Assistant Headteachers and the EYFS Lead, fostering professional growth and high performance.
  • Serve as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, championing pupil welfare and promoting a culture of safety and inclusion.
  • Act as a ‘nominee’ leader during Ofsted inspections and step in as Headteacher when required, ensuring seamless school leadership.

This role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in a dynamic and supportive environment, leading a committed team and contributing to a school that truly values every pupil’s potential.

About You

We are looking for a confident, compassionate, and forward-thinking leader who:

  • Has proven experience in senior leadership, ideally as a Deputy or Assistant Headteacher, with a track record of driving school improvement.
  • Demonstrates strong curriculum expertise across primary phases, including EYFS, and a passion for delivering inclusive education that meets diverse needs.
  • Uses data insightfully to raise attainment and tailor teaching and learning.
  • Is skilled at building positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, governors, and the wider community.
  • Leads by example with high expectations for attendance, behaviour, safeguarding, and wellbeing.
  • Is a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills and resilience to navigate challenges with positivity.
  • Is committed to professional development and eager to grow as a leader within a supportive, ambitious school culture.

We welcome applications from candidates who share our dedication to inclusion, equity, and nurturing every child’s potential.

What We Offer

  • A welcoming, inclusive school community with a clear shared vision and values.
  • Opportunities for professional growth, including leadership development and access to networks supporting best practice in education.
  • A chance to make a real impact in a school committed to continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Supportive colleagues and a strong, collaborative and experienced leadership team.
  • The chance to lead in a school with a strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare.
  • We are part of the Learning and Achieving Federation, partnering with Crownfield Junior School.
  • Wonderful learners who want to learn and achieve.
  • A stable and talented teaching team.

Safeguarding

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The protection of our pupils from abuse is the responsibility of all staff within our schools, superseding any other considerations. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to submit, prior to their interview, a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Upon submission of this information, online checks may be carried out.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the School.

Equal Opportunities

Havering Schools aim to promote and ensure equality of opportunity and equal treatment for all. We are committed to equal opportunities in employment regardless of gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origins, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, responsibility for dependants, religious or political affiliation and trade union activities. All matters related to employment are decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business need.
