We are looking to increase our pool of casual site staff at Branfil Primary School. Are you a proactive and practical person with strong DIY skills and a willingness to help?

You do not need to have experience in a school setting but you will need to be fit and active enough to fulfil the role.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • emergency repairs
  • site safety and security, including being a key holder
  • portering, which may include heavy lifting
  • cleaning, including cleaning at height
  • monitoring the use of the site by other people

We need someone who:

  • is able to work flexibly, both as part of a team and independently, responding effectively to the ‘unexpected’
  • understands health, safety and security issues in schools
  • has the know-how to assess and carry out minor repairs and maintenance
  • is willing to develop their own skills and knowledge, including undertaking any relevant training
  • is proactive and can constantly reprioritise their workload as circumstances change
  • has excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

Branfil Primary School is open from 7:00 am to 18:00.

Shifts are typically from 6:30 to 14:30 or from 10:30 to 18:30 and we would predominately be looking for cover for the early shift.

Branfil Primary School is a two/three-form entry LA maintained school based in Upminster, Essex.

We can offer you:

  • a welcoming, supportive and friendly staff
  • an exciting and well-resourced working environment
  • enthusiastic and polite pupils who value each other and the school
  • parents and carers who recognise the commitment of staff
  • CPD tailored to your individual needs
  • Opportunities for personal growth and advancement.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and strongly encouraged.

Please see the school website to find out more about Branfil Primary School.

Please apply online.

Closing Date: Friday 19th June 2026 - 12pm

Interview Date: W/c 29th June 2026

Safeguarding

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The protection of our pupils from abuse is the responsibility of all staff within our schools, superseding any other considerations. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to submit, prior to their interview, a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Upon submission of this information, online checks may be carried out.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the School.

Equal Opportunities

Havering Schools aim to promote and ensure equality of opportunity and equal treatment for all. We are committed to equal opportunities in employment regardless of gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origins, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, responsibility for dependants, religious or political affiliation and trade union activities. All matters related to employment are decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business need.
