About Our School
St Edward’s is a special place, shaped by a distinctive Christian ethos and a shared vision that every child should experience ‘Life in all its fullness’ — flourishing in mind, body, heart, and spirit.
We are proud to have been judged Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted (October 2024), reflecting the dedication of our exceptional staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils, and the commitment of our governing body. Strong partnerships with families, high expectations, and an inclusive culture make St Edward’s a vibrant, nurturing, and rewarding place to work and learn.
We are particularly proud of our rich and ambitious curriculum, which includes specialist teaching in Music, Art, French, Physical Education, and Swimming. These opportunities enable our pupils to develop confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of learning.
Supporting children with additional needs is central to our mission. As a Flagship School for Inclusion (Inclusion Quality Mark), we are committed to providing a nurturing environment in which every child is empowered to succeed. Our inclusive ethos underpins everything we do, and we expect all members of staff to actively contribute to and champion this commitment.
About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Teaching Assistant to join our team. Initially, the successful candidate will work alongside our PE Coach and Swimming Teacher, supporting the delivery of high-quality PE and swimming provision across the school. The successful candidate will also contribute to our wider extra-curricular programme.
This is a permanent, term-time only position and would particularly suit someone who is passionate about promoting children's physical development, wellbeing, and participation in sport.
The successful candidate will:
- Support pupils during PE and swimming lessons, ensuring all children can participate fully and confidently;
- Provide targeted support for pupils with additional needs to access learning and activities successfully;
- Deliver small-group coaching and intervention sessions;
- Assist with the organisation, preparation, and supervision of sporting events, competitions, and educational visits;
- Occasionally facilitate the delivery of PE lessons to allow staff attendance at training, events, or competitions.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- A relevant Level 2 qualification (or higher) in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Sport, or a related field;
- Experience of working with children in a sporting, coaching, or educational setting;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both children and adults;
- Good literacy and numeracy skills;
- The ability to support children's medical, emotional, physical, and behavioural needs.
We Are Looking for Someone Who
- Is positive, proactive, and able to use their initiative;
- Works effectively as part of a team and builds strong professional relationships;
- Is caring, patient, and enthusiastic about helping every child achieve their potential;
- Shares our commitment to inclusion, wellbeing, and high-quality education for all;
- Promotes high standards of behaviour, participation, and achievement both within lessons and across the wider school community;
- Has a genuine enthusiasm for sport, physical activity, and encouraging children to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
Joining St Edward’s is an opportunity to become part of a supportive and ambitious team where staff are valued, children are at the heart of every decision, and everyone is encouraged to flourish.
