Contract: Permanent (Term Time only) 38 weeks per year, 3 days weekly (24 hours)

Responsible to: Trust Attendance Lead/Schools' Senior Attendance Champion
Start date: ASAP
SFAET is a thriving multi-academy trust comprising five schools (three secondary, one infant, and one junior). We are committed to providing high-quality and dynamic education for all at the heart of our communities. We are deeply committed to enhancing our family support and attendance services, and this role is vital to fulfilling that commitment.
We are seeking a proactive, resilient, and professional Education Welfare Officer to join our team, based at Sanders Draper School. Aligned with the statutory DfE framework, working together to improve school attendance, you will work to uncover and understand the root causes and barriers to attendance facing our young people. By building strong, trusting partnerships with families, school leaders, and multi-agency partners, you will deliver targeted support, remove barriers to learning, and help embed a strong culture of high attendance and aspirations across our community.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in attendance and direct exposure to educational welfare or specialist pastoral casework. You will possess a strong working knowledge of statutory attendance legislation—alongside practical experience working within an educational setting with direct attendance responsibilities.
You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build trusting partnerships with pupils and families, uncover complex barriers to learning, and engage confidently with multi-agency partners and the Local Authority.
The successful candidate will also have a full, clean UK driving licence and regular access to their own reliable motor vehicle. As day-to-day duties involve travelling across the Borough of Havering to conduct home visits and work across our Trust school sites, holding valid business use motor insurance is an essential requirement of the post.
Why Work With Us?
At SFAET, we believe our staff are our greatest asset. We are committed to creating a positive and supportive work environment where everyone can thrive.
The Trust Principles supporting the Trust Pledge, incorporating culture, aspiration, inclusion and community, are:
- Unwavering Integrity
- Universal Respect
- Enduring Resilience
- Meaningful Opportunities
The post holder will be expected to proactively promote and demonstrate the SFAET Pledge and Principles, and as a Trust, we focus on a 'Commitment to Success for All' and high levels of aspiration for every member of our community. The Trust is forward-thinking and progressive. We seek to achieve the very best for our students through the use of a rich variety of educational approaches.
As an employee, you will be covered by our excellent well-being support and medical cover programmes provided through the Spark and Medicash organisations. This includes access 24 hours a day to a GP helpline, physiotherapy, optical support, dental treatment, and access to a counselling service.
The Success for All Educational Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (with children's barred list check).
At SFAET, we are deeply committed to the wellbeing and professional development of our staff. We foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where every team member is valued, supported, and rewarded for their contributions. If you are looking to advance your career in a supportive and dynamic setting and are committed to providing the very best experience for our staff and students, we would love to meet you.
