HEAD OF HISTORY

Hours: Full time

Salary: Teachers Mainscale/Upper pay scale depending on experience plus TLR 2c of £5,034 p.a.

Contract: Permanent

Start Date: Required September 2019

We are looking for an exceptional Head of History who can lead our department to sustained success. We place a high premium on EBacc subject areas and so a successful candidate must have passion, initiative and drive. Our History department has undergone significant improvement in the last two years and is poised for a good set of summer results. We were recently inspected by Ofsted and secured a ‘good’ judgement. The culture of hard work and initiative amongst our middle leaders featured prominently in that report. Our results across the school have improved consecutively for the past three years and we anticipate that this trend will continue with our 2018-19 results.

This is an exciting time to be joining Hornchurch High School. Our successful investment in securing excellent teaching and learning in recent years has been mirrored by a considerable investment in materials and new buildings, due to open in September 2020. We hope to follow the expansion of our accommodation with an increase in staffing over the coming months and years. We will therefore be in a position to allow for future career development for many of our teaching staff.

We are an aged 11-16 mixed comprehensive with good pupils, supportive parents and an excellent staff. Our innovative curriculum ensures that students experience a wide range of subjects and opportunities in and outside of the classroom. We offer excellent training, exciting links with other school partners and provide opportunities for personal development. We have a vibrant work place with friendly, supportive colleagues and an excellent work/life balance.

We welcome visits to the school and if you would like to arrange a tour please contact Ann Tyler on 01708 691441 or email atyler@hornchurchhigh.com.

If you have subject-related questions contact our Deputy Headteacher, Stuart McConnell smcconnell@hornchurchhigh.com
