Teacher of Engagement and Transition

Koru Independent AP Academy

90 Taunton Road, Harold Hill

This is a unique opportunity to join us at Koru Independent AP Academy. We are seeking to appoint an inspirational full time permanent KS3/Primary teacher to deliver and develop a dynamic Engagement and Transition curriculum.

Based in the heart of Harold Hill, our academy specialises in alternative provision and supporting the social and emotional educational needs of young people. Koru Independent AP Academy supports up to 50 students for whom traditional teaching methods have not worked. Students, ranging in age from 11 to 16, join us after being at risk of permanent exclusion from a mainstream school or due to having medical needs that prevent them from attending a mainstream setting.

Our academy is a nurturing, inclusive community where students are able to grow and develop. We strive to ensure success for all our learners academically, socially and morally. We build a curriculum around the needs of our students and are proud that our Year 11 students leave with qualifications on par with their mainstream peers and transition into education, training or employment.

Working in alternative provision can be challenging, but joining the Koru family is one of the most rewarding and positive career developments you will make. If you have the experience and enthusiasm to support us on our journey, we would love to hear from you.

Koru Independent AP Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We ensure through high quality training and development, all staff gain a deep understanding of the expectations of the Keeping Children Safe In Education guidance 2023. All applicants for this post must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including reference checks with previous employers, online and social media checks, an enhanced DBS check with the Disclosure & Barring Service, health check and two satisfactory references.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.

Only successful applicants will be contacted for an interview.

Incomplete applications will not be successful. CV's will not be accepted.

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The protection of our pupils from abuse is the responsibility of all staff within our schools, superseding any other considerations. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to submit, prior to their interview, a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Upon submission of this information, online checks may be carried out.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the School.

Equal Opportunities

Havering Schools aim to promote and ensure equality of opportunity and equal treatment for all. We are committed to equal opportunities in employment regardless of gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origins, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, responsibility for dependants, religious or political affiliation and trade union activities. All matters related to employment are decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business need.
