Sensory Impairment Teaching Assistant

Hours: 29 hours per week, 39 weeks per year

Grade: Grade 1/2 Spinal Points 3 - 5

Salary: £18,161 - £18,710 per annum. FTE: £26,238 - £27,030 (inclusive of Outer London Weighting)

To help us, we wish to appoint a Sensory Impairment Teaching Assistant to support our specialist resource base. The role will involve supporting Vision Impaired and Deaf students in both the mainstream and the resource base. The successful candidate will have experience of working with SEN students or have worked with both/either VI and Deaf students and have an enthusiasm to train/develop further skills in these specialisms.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have effective communication
  • Ability to adapt or modify interactions to meet pupil needs
  • Ability to summarise and present information from observations of pupil performance
  • Effective time management, planning and collaboration
  • Ability to provide a structured activity within a group setting
  • Group dynamics and how to apply them
  • Ability to recognise the range and implications of factors that impact pupil behaviour
  • An understanding of the behaviour patterns that might indicate problems such as substance abuse, bullying or child abuse
  • Relevant GCSE, ‘A’ level or graduate qualifications or equivalent
  • BSL Level 1 or a willingness to start the course September 2024
  • Active in wider community inclusion for children with special educational needs and an interest in developing a career in education.
